The perfect place to learn everything about snowboarding safety accessory gear!

NOW UPDATED FOR THE 2011/2012 SEASON !

10/23/2011- Saw Snow on the Mountains a Few Hours from the Home Base last weekend!
Won't be long until it's snowing here too! Welcome to the New Winter Season!

Find out all about snowboarding safety accessory gear like butt pads, wristguards, knee and elbow guards available on the market and online on this page...

What are the PROS AND CONS for each type of pad or guard and where you can look to find the best quality gear and best deals on the net!!!

Although not as important as a safety helmet, a good set of snowboarding safety accessory gear can save your day if you happen to go down hard!!!

WRIST GUARDS...
Wrist guards especially can be an inexpensive way to protect your paws on the slopes especially if you are gonna boost big airs or jam the latest tricks...They are the most used type of snowboarding safety accessory gear...
There's two types of wrist guards, strap on wristguards which fit under your gloves and the integrated guard/glove type which are part of a glove or mitten setup...
Personally I think the strap on type give better protection and safety...
But they are not as comfortable to wear...

So you gotta decide what is more important for you....comfort or safety...This depends on your age, riding style and ability and will determine how much you want to spend on any snowboarding safety accessory gear.

Believe me I know from personal experience...In Canada I caught an edge going mach 9 on a icy flat cat track cause I knew it had a walker ahead and I didn't wanna walk....I ended up getting pitched forward and stuck my hand out to try to roll with it...ended up tweakin my wrist and although I didnt break it or sprain it bad, it hurt bad the next day and it dogged me the rest of the week...

I kept it on cruise control for the next few days even though there was good powpow later in the week.I wish I had a wrist guard on that day, but I was not into snowboarding safety accessory gear yet...

Two years ago I badly broke my wrist on Maui roller blading at the skate park...no wrist guards on ...no safety accessory gear on that day, narrowly avoided surgery! But I spent a few months in a cast.It was real beat..NO JOB and LOW ON CASH It sucked...But I got my cast off Dec.1st and by Dec.7th...I was back in the early season powpow in Hokkaido Japan !!!

I wore a DAKINE wrist guard for the first 2 months every day and for another couple of months only if it hurt or the conditions were hard pack/icy days... I went down a bunch of times hard, even catching a tree or two and cratering a few times and never hurt the weak wrist... DAKINE guards are killer. They saved my drag azz tail unit ...AND changed my tune and attitude about snowboarding safety accessory gear...

BUTT PADS...
Ok now for BUTT PADS....alias impact shorts
They dont sound cool, look cool or feel cool either...But they can sometimes be cool....as long as no one knows your packing....Plus everyone who wears em said it keeps their tail unit warm.....
Yah right... its only cause they don't wanna bust their priceless A$$...

So Im gonna say this once only...The snowboarding master's lady wears them all alot in the spring cause she wacked herself hard a few times on hardpack and tweaked her tail unit....So she's packin a pair everytime she hits the slopes now during the springtime...She wont admit it though.... so don't ask her...Whatever you do don't say.... I said so...But SERIOUSLY, if you are just learning they can keep your tail unit from gettin tweaked and you can ditch em the next year to your younger bro or sis....These could be the third priority item on your snowboarding safety accessory gear list

WHERE TO BUY THE BEST SNOWBOARDING SAFETY ACCESSORY GEAR

WRIST GUARDS AND THE REST...

A few good places to start the search is at Backcountry.com and Altrec Outdoors.comandDogfunk.com

The best place I know of to get DaKine, Serius and Burton snowboarding safety accessory is from the
THE SNOWSHACK.com Snowshack.com has lots of snowboarding safety accessory gear for snowboarding. They carry the DaKine wrist guards which I have used alot and really like...The DaKine wrist guards are ok for comfort but pretty tough if you bail out of a jump and punch it hard.....or you are out on the slopes on a really icy rock hard day....or on the dreaded cat tracks...

They also got the SEIRUS jam master palm and wrist protectors, although I never tried em before....I hear they are OK...Seirus makes Da BONE gloves and mittens that come with the removable type of guards. In some ways these are phat too...

As my friend said...Look man ...I can take em out when riding pow and only need em when riding the hard pack...Seirus gloves and mittens are not super expensive either so they may be a good way to go...They are one of the best snowboarding safety accessory items I have seen available... Also look in THE SNOWSHACK.com for the BURTON mens and womens impact shorts. They also carry the SEIRUS super padded impact shorts too.

Another place that has a limited selection of protective gear is the The-House.com...They have Booster wristguards,Booster and Demon padded shorts and The-House knee pads...It won't take long to check those out...

Here is a really good place to check out the full line up of Pro-tec snowboarding protective gear at FogDog.com They carry the full line up of Pro-tec back, butt, wrist, elbow and knee pads plus shin guards with free shipping available on all of them except the elbow pads...A couple of my buddies, are using the PRO TEC wrist guards, elbow and knee pads cause their thing is to catch big airs in the backcountry...

A few guys I know who are into tricks are wearing shoulder pads...but I dont know of anybody who makes em for snowboarding...My friends who do.. I think got em from mountain biking shops and use em in the summer too ...

Now here is another shop that has lots of snowboarding gear...It's REI.com...REI.com has wrist, knee and elbow guards in the snowboarding gloves, hats and hats section, then look in the wrist braces sub-section...They have DaKine wrist guards my favorites...Plus Pro-Tec knee and elbow pads, Serius Jam-master wrist guards and 3 different Serius knee braces at decent prices... Give em a look see right now...
