Find Out Fast What You Need to Know About Snowboarding Socks !
UPDATED FOR THE 2009/2010 SEASON !
Don't wear COTTON SOCKS for snowboarding socks ! That is the # 1 Thing NOT TO DO...
For snowboarding you want to wear wool, smart wool or a synthetic material specifically made for skiing or snowboarding...Some examples of synthetic fabrics are Holofiber,Thermastat and Microfleece...
For snowboarding, one pair of midweight socks is best... Do not wear 2 pairs of socks unless the base pair are very thin lightweight socks...
I have tried before many times in ski boots and snowboard boots to wear 2 pairs and 90% of the time one pair of midweight socks is warmer and more comfortable than 2 pairs...
A very thin liner of wicking microfleece or Holofiber under a midweight pair of socks is most times OK...Again you will have to experiment with what works best for your own feet...
WHERE TO BUY SNOWBOARDING SOCKS !
If you have read about base layers then... YAH you guessed it! WICKERS.COM has got Holofiber sock liners and Holofiber socks too under their HOLOFIBER section...I would check these out as a first choice for top of the line snowboarding socks!!!
SnowShack.com has a very large selection of socks from Burton, Hot Chilly, Seirus, Spyder, and Smart Wool. Some snowboarding socks to check out that are not widely available in the USA are the Lange socks made from silk and DuPont hollow core dacron called Thermastat...Special mention goes to the EURO socks...These socks are made in Italy specifically for snowsports, with socks for snowboarders and skiers...They are made from a hollow core microfiber called MICROsupreme...I felt these are a solid deal as they are average price for a superior sock... Now for the SEIRUS stormsocks... they sound good, but I have no direct or indirect experience with these snowboarding socks from Seirus...They are a 3 ply sock of microfleece inside and a 4 way stretch nylon fabric on the outside with a windproof H2O resistant breathable membrane in between...So cruise on through the Snowshack and drop a few of their socks onto your feet now or onto your Must Have for X-mas list...
Lets head over to Sierra Trading Post.com STP has Smartwool socks in light and medium weights AND they have Fox River merino wool socks in light and medium weight too...They are a little hard to find, look under the snowsports section and then SKI boots/socks skip the first page its all ski boots and second page has the goods...at a good price...While you are there for the second time , check out their snowboard clothing again...
If you have read and clicked around this website this far you should be really well schooled about snowboard clothing and snowboard clothing technology...Use your newly learned knowledge to your advantage and shop smart for snowboard clothing...Snowboard clothing represents a major part of the investment in good snowboarding gear...
So now you know alot about snowboarding socks TOO...and can make a well informed choice about which socks work the best for different situations... So look around...Theres some other shops and resources listed for snowboarding socks below... Socks are pretty cheap compared to jackets and pants so you can afford to buy a few pairs ... Its a good idea to try 3 really different styles and fabrics and try them out early in the season...Then you can pick your favorites and buy more of them or get your favorite someone to set you up with some pairs of socks at X-MAS along with your other snowboard clothing wish list items!!!
